Growing up, my family would always serve prosciutto-wrapped melon as a light, refreshing appetizer before the main meal, and it’s one of those dishes that has stuck with me over the years. There’s something about the perfect balance of sweet and savory that just feels like the start of something special. I love making this dish for gatherings, and it’s even better when paired with our 2022 Blanc de Blancs. The crisp bubbles and vibrant citrus notes of the sparkling wine elevate the sweetness of the melon and complement the saltiness of the prosciutto in the most delightful way. It’s a simple yet elegant appetizer that always impresses.

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe cantaloupe or honeydew melon (Tuscan is the best if in season!)
  • 8 oz thinly sliced prosciutto
  • Balsamic glaze (optional, for drizzling)
  • Fresh basil leaves (optional, for garnish)
  • Freshly ground black pepper (optional, for seasoning)

Directions

  • Cut the melon in half, remove the seeds, and slice into 1-inch thick wedges.
  • Cut each prosciutto slice in half lengthwise. Wrap each melon wedge with a slice of prosciutto, slightly overlapping the edges.
  • If desired, add a small basil leaf to each wrapped wedge for a burst of freshness. Sprinkle with freshly ground black pepper for extra flavor. Drizzle with balsamic glaze.
  • Arrange the prosciutto-wrapped melon wedges on a platter and serve immediately.
